For more than 23 years, we have always had the highest standards of health and cleanliness on all our ships, and the additional new protocols being put in place, make Viking even safer.

Developed in coordination with an international team of scientific and medical advisors, our Health & Safety Program is one of the most well-researched and comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and management plans in the travel industry.

"We have equipped all our ocean ships with the world’s first full-scale PCR testing laboratories at sea"

Daily PCR Testing and Dedicated Laboratories

We have partnered with a leading international healthcare company, to build a strong network of dedicated shore-side laboratories for our European river ships, allowing us to run quick and easy non-invasive tests for all guests and crew. These tests will be conducted prior to embarkation with the ability to test daily if required to ensure the safety of all on board.

Air Purification

Our ships are equipped with independent air handling units for each stateroom – ensuring the air in guest staterooms is not recirculated, nor shared with other spaces on board. Every river ship in our fleet will also be upgraded with short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) lights and new high-density filters, which will sanitize the air and kill 99.99% of all bacteria and viruses.

Health Checks

Frequent temperature checks and a health questionnaire, are two additional methods of ensuring the overall wellness of everyone on board.

Additional Sanitisation

While our ships have always been meticulously cleaned, new enhanced procedures mean the cleaning frequency of areas such as doorways, handrails and elevators will be increased; hand sanitisation stations have been installed throughout guest and crew areas; and deep cleanings will take place daily.

On Board Physical Distancing

Our river ships are already known for their spacious, airy public areas. More options for spaced seating in our restaurants will allow more room for physical distancing. The self-serve buffet will be replaced with crew service; and new technology will allow guests to watch more live events and the on board enriching content program from the privacy of their stateroom.
