Pre-Boarding

You are required to hand in a self-declaration form. This ensures the safety of you, your fellow passengers and the crew on your sailing. This declaration is required to allow you to travel with Hurtigruten, and the line reserves the right to refuse embarkation for guests with missing or incomplete information.
This form will confirm the following:

  • You are not showing signs of any COVID-19 symptoms at embarkation.
  • You have not been in contact with anyone who has COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
Hurtigruten promises a 100 per cent clean onboard environment.

Embarkation And Disembarkation

Negative COVID-19 tests will be required by all crew and guests before embarking on expedition cruises. Guests affected by these testing measures will receive information on the testing requirements before travelling. All guests will have their temperature checked upon embarkation.

  • A contactless fever scan to record your temperature will be performed before embarkation, and at any point during the trip.
  • A test for fever before each meal at the restaurants’ entrance.
  • Guests and crew will be tested before embarkation on our expedition cruises.
  • You are asked to wash or disinfect your hands when embarking or disembarking the ship.
  • You are asked to open a cruise account where all purchases are registered on a touch-free card to limit the use of cash and frequent contact with payment terminals.
  • The number of people who embark and disembark the ship at any given time is regulated.

Social Distancing

To facilitate social distancing, the number of guests in restaurants, lecture halls, swimming pool, sauna and gym will be limited. Guests will be offered several time options for meals and activities. In-cabin services and floor markings for appropriate distance are other measures that facilitate safe social distance for guests and crew.

Safety face masks will be required onboard in certain situations.

Cleaning

By using the latest technology, certified cleaning products and disinfectants, Hurtigruten promises a 100 per cent clean onboard environment. In addition to thorough daily cleaning, public areas and cabins will be fully disinfected on a regular basis. Sanitising stations are placed in all public areas.

  • The entire ship will be fully disinfected in each turn-around. During expedition cruises, a full disinfection of the ship will be carried out every day.
  • Public areas are disinfected with electrostatic spraying using Micro Quat Extra that have been proven and certified to eliminate COVID-19 using the guidelines from The German Society for the Control of Virus Diseases (DVV).
  • Cabins are disinfected with Drysan Oxy, a cleaning and disinfectant proven to eliminate viruses, including COVID-19, on all surfaces. Drysan Oxy is certified using the guidelines from DVV.
  • Strict cleaning routines are secured through internal and external hygiene inspections. External partners are used to implement both planned and unannounced hygiene inspections on all ships.
  • Checks of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) filters, and the quality of the drinking water are carried out regularly.
  • All guests should uphold good hand hygiene by washing their hands with soap and water or alcohol based hand sanitiser.

Health Service

Along the Norwegian coast, a nurse is part of the crew and ships are never far from land and access to the onshore health service; meanwhile expedition ships always have a hospital, a doctor and at least one assistant nurse onboard. There is also a dedicated Health & Safety Officer onboard, whose task is to coordinate and ensure the quality of infection control on board.
