Why we're different

Australia’s longest established expedition cruise operator, Coral Expeditions is Australia’s pioneering cruise line, offering a unique style of immersive adventures by small expedition ship.

What began with environmentally conscious cruises on the Great Barrier Reef 35 years ago has grown to a state-of-the-art fleet taking expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef, the ancient Kimberley coastline, Tasmania’s wilderness coast, Cape York and Arnhem Land, New Zealand and further afield to the small Islands of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Including the intimate yacht-like Coral Discoverer and the brand-new vessels Coral Adventurer and Coral Geographer, the Coral Expeditions fleet is purpose-built for expedition cruising. Signature Xplorer tenders and Zodiacs allow guests to explore coastlines and rivers up close, with birdwatching, wildlife spotting, and snorkelling & Scuba a core feature in itinerary excursions. An expert expedition team onboard including specialist lecturers share insightful commentary and knowledge during each voyage.

Coral Expeditions has an Australian philosophy, from the Australian flag and crew to the relaxed and intimate atmosphere on board. Education about the people and places we travel is of primary importance, with respect for the environments and cultures we visit a key factor in our expedition style. We value the places less travelled and seek to share restorative, intimate and transformational experiences with our guests wherever we travel.

Notably, our SailSAFE program instigated a successful year of sailing since October 2020. The pioneering plan resulting in over 80 voyages carrying over 3200 guests without a single health incident or issue.

Safety protocols

We want our guests and crew to have the greatest confidence that their safety and wellbeing have been thoroughly considered. We have partnered with experienced medical experts to assist us in developing a medical protocol that is among the most thorough in the world. This safety culture is deeply ingrained in the companies philosophy.

All passengers must follow specific declaration and testing requirements pre-cruise. Please read through our SailSAFE Plan for more information. With three levels, the SailSAFE Plan is intended to guide you through the medical requirements to ensure you are cleared to board our vessel. Please also review our guides on receiving your PCR Test.

Vaccination Policy: As an Australian-flagged operator, Coral Expeditions is required to follow state and federal government health mandates and legislation. We have requirements to maintain a safe work environment for our crew and to protect the health and wellbeing of passengers and crew. As a result, we have adopted a Vaccine Policy involving a mandatory requirement for all guests and crew to be fully vaccinated status in order to travel from 1 December 2021. Medical exemptions authorized in line with Australian medical standards will be acceptable.
